Our Tiny House Construction Since 2013

Hello everyone,

Our tiny house is not even finished on the inside yet but it has already visited three different corners of Connecticut – Fairfield, Putnam and Westerly. Towing it was a lot of fun and we are very relieved to realize how easy it is. If you are here because you have seen us on the road, please do not hesitate to tell us. 🙂

So, why were we driving around Connecticut in a big circle anyway?

Fairfield
On Saturday, April 25th, we met a group of people from Tumbleweed Tiny House Company’s workshop at a Service Center along I-95 in the Southwestern part of the state. Towing our tiny house for the very first time was connected to an enormous variety of emotions. The first ones were fear and tension because we were afraid of making mistakes, damaging our house or even getting pulled over by the police. Then there was excitement when we finally hooked up the truck to the tongue of the trailer, hit the gas and watched our home following smoothly behind. But the most satisfying feeling of all is the smell of freedom! It is hard to describe, you have to experience it. We cruised along the highway on a sunny spring day, enjoyed sitting right next to each other, shoulder to shoulder, listened to our favorite music and let the wind blow through our hair. All that while people that passed us honked, waved and or took pictures, haha!

Putnam
On Friday, May 1st, we headed Northeast to Putnam’s “First Friday in May” Festival but due to Connecticut’s infamous traffic we had to deal with 90 minute delay. At least we were able to park our tiny house in Union Square just a few minutes before sunset, hooray! As soon as we opened our tiny door our Runaway Shanty was overrun by curious faces and that’s why it took us so long to actually appear at the main event for our trip – Derek Diedricksen’s tiny house workshop! Exhausted from the journey and the new impressions we cuddled up in our sleeping loft for the very first time!
The next morning we finally had the chance to catch up with the attendees of the workshop and indulge in hours of tiny house talk. Oh, how amazing it is to speak with like-minded people! Everyone was just so nice and happy – thank you all, you were a great inspiration to us! It was also great to meet the workshop hosts Deek and his brother Dustin – they even did a little interview with us! And, believe it or not, we also met Roger from Unforgettable Fire, LLC – the man who invented our beautiful Kimberly Wood Stove!

Westerly
Unfortunately on Saturday afternoon we got kicked out of Putnam and so we rolled Southward to a camping ground. As we were approaching a parking spot between other RVs, Campers and Cabins people were insanely craning their necks. Not long after that we were again giving tours. One woman even told us, “I got a call from my friend who is camping here tonight and she literally asked me if I had just seen the same thing.”
At night Roger helped us to light up what he calls his “baby” for the first time so that it could keep us warm while we were sleeping – what a great memory! 🙂

And that’s what tiny living is all about – making memories!
